For my final blog post of 2020, and as a sort of investing wrap up for this incredible year, I wanted to follow up on two investing-related posts from last year, namely: The Fabulous Investing Decade of the 2010s (What’s Next?) (from 12/31/19) Day 311: What’s Your Risk Tolerance? (from 6/10/19) In the first of these two posts, written in the waning hours of the 2010s, I thought about the last decade, specifically how cushy it ended up being for investors (despite the Financial Crisis that preceded it). That’s very…
Year: 2020
I Decided to Be Happy
As I sit at my computer table/breakfast table/teaching station, it is almost 9pm on December 30th, 2020. There are barely 27 hours left in the year, and 2020 will be a memory. My, what a memory. I do not even need to tell you, since you have your unique experience. Yet I think it is fair to say that everyone alive has had an experience with this year that they will not soon forget. It is quite possible that 2020 has been the most memorable, the most eventful, the most…
Practicing Ease and Effortlessness
These days, I’m starting to look for ways to work easy, to let things happen effortlessly, to leverage the wonderful ways that things can get accomplished as if by magic, without stress or strain. More and more I’m striving to take “the path of least resistance,” as Abraham-Hicks talks about. More and more, I have the optimistic notion that this Universe is looking out for me. Why not align with it and trust it to help things work out on my behalf? Most of us learned of the (supposed) virtue…
Not Nice Chris Comes Out to Play
I’m reading a book about overcoming “being nice,” and it’s challenging me to re-think some of my own behaviors. So I decided to create a little list of some things I think. Some of these things I would normally keep to myself for fear of looking bad or offending someone. Not tonight. A Little About Me: Behaviors I respect: Reading books Athleticism Standing for what you believe in Creativity Excellence Financial Savvy Honesty Courage Being Great with People Making Friends Easily Good organization skills Making your own weather, following your…
The Power of Intention: Arnold Forges His Destiny
I recently finished reading Arnold Schwarzenegger’s autobiography “Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story.” There were many things I enjoyed about this book. For one thing, Arnold is an excellent writer (especially for a famous person not primarily known for writing). He brings to life the many people, places, and projects he encounters with vivid and well-constructed descriptions that paint a clear picture and are quite enjoyable to read. Also, he gives deft and insightful observations of his own mindset as he progresses through his life and career. Arnold comes…
“Day Dreaming” (rhyme)
I love daydreaming. It’s so fun. There are lots of things I have day-dreamed about, and many of them have come true. They continue to come true. I continue to day-dream and it continues to be fun. Here’s a rhyme about day-dreaming: What a lovely day dream No matter how it may seem I’m doing a great thing for myself as I gaze deep- ly toward a far away scene In my mind. This ain’t sleep though my face beams blankly, I’m awake see, having a great think! Attracting my…
Slow and Steady to My First Marathon
My Christmas Day unfolded as follows: I ran 10 miles this morning, came home and after a nice breakfast enjoyed gift-giving with my wife. We then visited with family on Zoom, after which we had an excellent Christmas meal she prepared (the menu: our Thanksgiving meal, back by popular demand!). After this, we both took a nap, after which we played cards while listening to a virtual radio broadcast of a play from a theater my wife shoots pictures for (in normal times where plays are being produced). 🙂 Today’s…
Christmas Eve Appreciation List
I like to write things I appreciate :). I did it on this blog at least here and here. And so I shall do it again right now! Here is my list of things I am appreciating: This blog. It’s a totally cool way to express myself, to play in my sand box, if you will, to articulate thoughts on subjects that matter to me, and to have an ongoing creative project that suits me. That today’s TV appearance went well :). I was back on Good Day Sacramento playing…
“the Inner Loon” (poem)
It acts like it’s on my side Yet it judges me that I’m less It’s focused on fear and lack It must want me out of whack It has trained me well I barely know it’s here Yet I recognize its stink In unhappy thoughts I think Why believe its lies? Why let it manipulate? I wish I’d say I didn’t But it keeps itself so hidden Working in the background I forget what it is I forget its trickery Until it’s gettin’ me Awareness is my tool To come…
Top 10 Personal Accomplishments of 2020
I believe in making lists of things I’m proud of, things I’m enjoying, things I appreciate. So here goes a list of ten personal accomplishments from 2020 (in no particular order): Sometime Blogger Excels: This year I took a flexible on-again, off-again approach to blogging (though when I blogged, I did it every day). The months I blogged were April , June, and starting up in mid-October through today. Myhappinessobsession continues to be a great healing and creative personal outlet. Run, Man, Run! This year has probably been the best…
