Today as I was listening to Abraham I heard something like, “You shouldn’t say words to try to create a vibration. That doesn’t work. Instead, you want to say words that match a positive vibration you can directly get in touch with right now.”*
This reminds me of the topic of affirmations. I have long heard about using affirmations to manifest things we want. I have in the past used them myself, with limited results. The Abraham idea above gets at what I think didn’t always work for me about affirmations.
Sometimes it’s not enough just to repeat a positive statement. To be useful, an affirmation really should be believable to you already, even as it expands your current perception and reality. It is a positive statement that reinforces a thought that has a kernel of truth for you.
For instance, how does it feel when you say, “I am a millionaire”? If you think, “Yeah! I like this!” then you are on the right track. Keep it up. If on the other hand, you think something like, “Well… um… I don’t feel like a millionaire when I say that. I feel like a chump. Have you seen my finances lately?” then the affirmation is not in this moment helpful.
To the person aiming to generate positive feelings of abundance, unless they are already in orbit of becoming a millionaire, perhaps one of the affirmations below works better right now:
- “I know abundance is all around me, and I experience it in many ways, both financial and non-financial.”
- “There is so much abundance and prosperity to appreciate.”
- “I often feel abundant, and I know that more is coming to me.”
- “I love feeling good and having a good time. I love laughing and having joyful things to think about.”
This last affirmation isn’t even directly a money-related statement at all. That might be perfect for the aspiring manifester, because it is general enough not to raise resistance.
The key is for the statement to be something that already is within the realm of what we can believe and therefore feel good about. The good news is, you don’t have to even bring up the subject in question in order to do good for yourself. If the topic you are focused on feels good, it is good!
*In fact, the exact quote was: “Keep going back to the general that works… you can feel when you start using words and imagery to change the vibration, instead of using the vibration to attract the words and imagery…Find a central place that feels good, get it activated, and let it do the work.” From Youtube.
