Today’s post is #998. Yep, that’s right. Two days from now, I will be posting #1000.
Reaching this milestone makes me think a little about what has made this blog work so well. Clearly this blog is something I enjoy doing. That helps enormously. I also happen to be excellent at the small efforts that add up, the Andy Dufresne style of using my rock hammer to chip through the walls a little at a time. At the risk of repeating things I’ve written many times before, I have achieved many accomplishments the slow-and-steady-way, including:
- Reading lots of books, many of them big.
- Investing and Saving.
- Running many thousands of miles, including training for and running marathons!
- Writing my book on piano-playing.
- Using Intermittent Fasting to lose (and keep off) 30 lbs.
- Composing lots of music.
- Even finishing a jar of jelly beans!
My wife has often joked (or is she joking?) about me being the Borg… because I’m relentless! There may be truth to this. But I want to stress this: my relentlessness has a cause. Its cause is my own alignment, that is, my personal satisfaction.
People should be relentless in the pursuit of things they love 🙂
One final comment. I just re-read a post from a few years ago, in which I had this to say about my blog:
A lot of what I write about on this blog qualifies as low-hanging fruit, the kind of thing I find it easy to enjoy writing about. I’m always reaching for satisfaction. It’s the running, the reading, the writing, the thinking about things I enjoy thinking about and do with great ease.
It’s the Little Things, 11/30/19
Amen to that.
1000 Post Club, here we come!
