I am having a lot of fun working on my latest film scoring project. Meanwhile, I’m taking some orchestration and music production courses on Udemy. Gradually, I’m learning about the world of film scoring and gaining skill at doing it.
Admittedly, a couple of times it has started to feel a bit overwhelming. My mind started chattering at me::
“What connections do you have to become a film composer? (None!). How much do you know about orchestration? (Not enough!)” Then doubt creeps in. “It just seems too hard!”
Fortunately I don’t take these thoughts seriously. I just step back and say, “You know, I don’t need to worry about any of that. All I need to do is keep doing what I am doing now, keep enjoying myself, keep doing what is fun. Am I having fun? Yes! Am I learning? Yes! That’s what matters.”
This helps me clear my head. Because I know that if I’m having a good time, then good things are coming, one way or another.
It’s nice to know that I am better these days at sidestepping the worry rabbit hole. Been there, worried about that. I’d rather keep a positive frame of mind.
As far as my composing/ film scoring ambitions, I remind myself that I am already doing just fine. There’s nothing that needs to happen here. I get to learn and grow, and I am enjoying this latest phase of my creative journey. I already have a great life, and I get to have more!
There’s nothing that needs to be fixed or changed. Just opportunities for more fun and growth.
Let’s keep this ride going!
