This is a continuation of this discussion from a few days ago.
As I wrote in that post, at times it can be tricky to change our vibration on some subject, especially if that subject matters to us and is something we have already thought a lot about. If that is the case, our thought patterns are already established, whether they help us or hinder us. By the time people start examining their thinking from a vibrational point of view, typically they have been thinking those thoughts for many years, possibly for decades. Their patterns of thinking have crystalized into strong habits. They may want to change their thinking, but it’s not always simple to do. It’s certainly not immediate.
Abraham uses an analogy about trains. If you got a train going 100mph one way, and you want it to go 100mph the other way, you don’t just instantly expect it to change. It’s got momentum going in one direction! Yet how often we act is if we should be able to change our thoughts instantly? I certainly have. I was often very hard on myself for not being an instant master at this! Yet it’s not so easy to do once your thoughts patterns are in motion.
I find it helpful to examine the areas in which I already have a strong positive vibration going. Without even realizing it, I got some good thoughts going early on in many areas, including physical well-being and exercise, creative, personal expression, and relationships. In these areas, my train is headed in the right direction at full speed!
On the other hand, there are other areas when I realized my train was definitely going 100 mph the wrong way! Eventually I stopped adding to that old negative momentum. It’s like I stopped shoveling coal into the train’s engine. Little by little, the train is slowing down. Now the train is probably only going 60 or 70 mph the wrong way, or maybe only 30 or 40!
Meanwhile, here are lessons I’ve learned on the topic of shifting my vibration:
- It’s best not to force change. I am where you are. I can’t just pick up those “rotten” subjects right now and expect them to be ready. It might take awhile.
- Soothing is solving! I can make peace with where I am by telling myself that all is well and I am doing ok.
- There is a lot to appreciate and enjoy in this life in the here and now, no matter what. I don’t need to focus on areas that don’t feel good right now. They’ll shift in their own time. Meanwhile, I can put my attention where the fun and satisfaction already are.
