A few days ago I shared the idea that the Law of Attraction works like we are preparing a meal that only we get to eat. We choose all the ingredients, and the Law of Attraction, you might say, puts them all together and throws them into the oven. It then serves us the produce of our own cooking.
It’s a simple analogy, but understanding how it shows up in our lives can be tricky. First of all, though we are the ones who put the ingredients in, we often don’t realize we are doing it. The way we choose the ingredients is with our focus. Whatever we focus on, we include in our dish. People don’t always realize how many unwanted ingredients they are including in their own cooking! For instance, they may be doubting that they get what they want, or blaming someone else in the process, or thinking that life is always hard. But if we put it in there, it shows up in the food.
A long time ago I signed up with a business coach to help me with my business. The coaching was not cheap. Though I was hopeful that it would pay off, I didn’t feel alignment about this choice. I was feeling quite stressed and confused at the time. I rationalized that paying an expensive coach might somehow force me to get my financial act together! Needless to say, the experience did not go well. To use the Law of Attraction chef analogy, rather than getting a fine meal of success and abundance, I served myself up a meal of frustration, stress, and dissatisfaction. But how could I otherwise? I attracted the situation from a place of confusion.
Fortunately, this experience was also blessing in disguise: it taught me the importance of checking in with myself about how I really feel. I made a commitment only to act from a place of alignment. Incidentally, I started my first 365 Day Blogging Project soon afterward, and several years of growth and positivity ensued.
Experiences like what I went through are a constant reminder of the importance of being in tune with these kinds of topics. To me, it is no less than my own happiness that is on the line.
And so I pay attention.
