My wife and I are both equally enthusiastic movie-goers. By “movie-goers,” I also mean “movie-watchers,” since we don’t always go to the movies that we watch. During the Pandemic especially, there was a two year gap between going to the movies, though we watched many of them at home
Happily, in the past year we returned to movie-going, and have done a fair amount of it. In the first half or so of 2022 we saw the following movies in the theaters:
- Death on the Nile
- Top Gun: Maverick (which I wrote a glimmering review about and saw twice)
- Dr. Strange and the Multi-Verse of Madness
- Jurassic World: Dominion
- Thor: Love and Thunder
- Elvis
- Moonage Daydream
In the past two months, we’ve added to our movie-going experiences with these titles:
- Avatar: Way of Water
- Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
- A Man Called Otto
- The Whale
- Everything Everywhere All at Once (which we saw today)
As I said, we are both movie fans. We may not love all the movies we see, but often we do. Sometimes they are spectacular. Usually they are at least entertaining.
Incidentally, I find that movie trailers are the only types of commercials that I can easily tolerate (more than that, I’m enthused about watching them!).
Going to the movie houses for us is a unique and special experience. Sure, we love watching at home, but we are still die hards, willing to shell over some extra money so we can sit in a darkened room with strangers and let worlds of magic and wonder unfold before our very eyes.
Long live the movies.
