Today I was doing some more writing (yes, I’m a writing junkie…) at the cafe (yes, I’m a writing-at-the-cafe junkie!), and I realized why I so enjoy my time there: I get to align with my inner guidance (okay, the ultimate truth: I am an inner-guidance junkie!) There are no outside pressures working on me. Furthermore, I am not reacting to my own usual opinions or pressures, and instead I get to dwell within a space of personal alignment.
It’s a little bit like a visualization exercise I learned a long time ago and still use: picture yourself on a calm beach, enjoying the warm sand, basking in the sunlight, hearing the pelicans and gulls, and enjoying the sound of the waves.
I have used this visualization many a time to relax. I even have a beach house on that beach, where I often get a massage or lay in a tub of healing warm liquids. There is someone there whom I can share what’s on my mind if there’s something bothering me. Funny as it may seem, this “virtual reality” exercise always feels really good. It works to put me in a calm mood!
And so it is, in a way, at the cafe. The difference is that, when I’m sitting at the cafe writing, I can go further into my thoughts and work through things. I can write down entire paragraphs of inspired thought, and I can dwell extensively on thoughts that feel good. I can also work out stuff that is confusing or unsatisfying, and inevitably, I gain insight and clarity.
It is amazing to me the vast reservoir of knowledge and wisdom that is available to us within us if we only take the time to look. Whether I am doing a visualization exercise or having a conversation “with my Inner Being/Higher Self,” I delight in the ability to use my mind for my own good.
I read many years ago in the book “Think and Grow Rich” about having imaginary counselors to give you advice when you need it. I invented a circle of counselors that I regular checked in with. It really worked!
These days, I check in for my own inner guidance more than ever. Obviously, that’s what my Higher Self posts are about. Incidentally, I feel that the same source of inspiration that talks to me in literal conversation is related to the source that gives me creative inspiration. Whether I’m writing a piece of music or checking my own intuition for insight, it seems I am drawing from the same unlimited reservoir of insight, love, and creativity.
As my “Higher Self” wrote in a prevous post, you have the guidance you need inside you.
It is a marvelous thing!
