These days, in the back of my mind (or in the front of it) I always seem to be thinking about the Law of Attraction concepts I have been soaking in for awhile now. Recently it has been hitting me just how much I used to dwell on what I didn’t want. In fact, sometimes I might have even thought I was focusing on what I wanted, but in fact I was focusing on the lack of it.
I wrote about this before a little while ago. In Law of Attraction circles, folks like Abraham-Hicks talk about how every subject is really two subjects: the subject, and the lack of it. Or wanted and unwanted. I am personally becoming very aware of how much this issue impacted me, as I believe it impacts the entire human race.
Let’s take a simple example. What thoughts and feelings come up when you think of the topic of ice cream? Some of us think of the cool, sweet, delicious, dessert that comes in so many different flavors it could make our head spin (and our stomachs gurgle). We are delighted as our mouths begin to water, or as we think about enjoyable times we have had with friends eating ice cream. It could be any number of associations, but if you are feeling good as you think of ice cream, congratulations: you are focused on the HAVING or WANTED side of the topic.
On the other hand, I’m sure there are some of us who have a very different reaction. I know that some people, when they think of ice cream, probably feel guilty, or bad, or conflicted. Perhaps they think of their doctor, husband, friend, or someone on TV saying that ice cream is unhealthy, that they shouldn’t have it. Maybe they feel longing but then submit to well-practiced denial of what they desire. For them, thoughts of ice cream are not nearly quite so comforting.
You could say they are focused on the LACK or UNWANTED side of the topic of ice cream. Whether it’s the thing itself, or the memories it triggers for you, the end result is a feeling of lack, or of unwanted feelings.
You could, for instance, be unaffected by guilt (or any bad feelings) about eating ice cream. However, what if you ran an ice cream shop, and what if it went out of business? And what if you didn’t start back up a new business but instead spent the past few years feeling like a failure? In that case, the topic of ice cream might conjure up feelings of worthlessness, or of being a failure. That’s still a form of lack.
In other words, I think this topic could be summarized with the idea that if a topic feels good for you, then you are (happily) focused on what you want. Furthermore, you are actually attracting what you want in that moment. The satisfaction, joy, delight, or anticipation you are feeling is the clue.
On the other hand, if that same topic feels bad for you, then it means it is currently activating thoughts which are focused on what you don’t want. It could be thinking about failure, poverty, or just bad health. Either way, the bad feelings indicate that you are off-course from what you want.
I am enjoying gaining greater clarity on this topic, and I am eager to master it in my own life. Big thanks to Abraham-Hicks for all the fine help in this department!
