Tonight’s post is sort of a continuation on the “Vibrational Meal” concept for how the Law of Attraction works.
The Law of Attraction teaches that we get what we expect. Expectations are like well-trod pathways that lead in a particular direction. Even if that path isn’t a happy path, nonetheless, because of the power of momentum, we may have gotten habituated without realizing it to thinking in a particular way, even though it gives us unhappy results.
Changing unwanted expectations isn’t easy, but it can happen. It starts with examining what our expectations are. This can be a subtle thing to tune into. We have expectations for everything, but not many people honestly assess their expectations, especially when those expectations may not be serving them.
There’s a great story that Abraham tells about when Esther and Jerry* were staying to hotels. They noticed they were getting bad room service. This kept on happening, no matter what hotel they stayed at. One day, just for fun, they ordered the simplest thing they could think of: two bowls of cereal with milk. They still didn’t get what they asked for!
What was going on here? Abraham was telling the story to make a point about expectations. In that story, Esther and Jerry started expecting to get bad room service. And so they kept on getting it! In order to change what they attracted, they needed to clean up their expectations before they ordered room service. Perhaps they stopped ordering room service for awhile. Perhaps they went out to restaurants instead. Until they released their negative expectations, there was nothing for the Universe to do but to keep bring them their bad room service!
You get what you expect. You can’t get around that. Perhaps we can be like Esther and Jerry, who were able to laugh at themselves when they realized how their expectations were working against them.
Being light-hearted about ourselves is a good first step in changing.
