Day 349: A Consistent Yet Relaxed Running Life

I continue to enjoy the mellowness of my running life: productive and consistent, yet relaxed.

For about four-and-a-half months, I have held to a four-day running routine: two hour-long runs and one thirty minute run during the week; one run over the weekend, varying from six miles to nine (frequently with my buddy Dave). Two days from now I’m running nine miles for the second time this year.

I am working my way back to Half Marathon distance, as I am likely to run Urban Cow in October. I have been in no rush to commit to the race, for the same reasons I wrote about four months ago. Training for a half marathon is not difficult for me, but I did not want to repeat the mistake I made all last year of holding myself to a date for a race I didn’t end up doing. In general, I have been on the fence about getting back into public events.

Regardless of whether I participate in the public half, I love training and am eager to leisurely push the mileage back into half marathon range.

Here’s my exercise for the last week*:

Day Activity Notes
Friday Run (80 min, 8 miles); Swim (10 min) My run was in the morning in Sacramento, swimming was in the pool at site of family vacation in San Martin, CA.
Saturday Run (1/2 hr, 2.75 miles); Swim (20 minutes) Running with my brother while on family vacation; more light swimming
Sunday Swim (20 min) Enjoying the pool where we were staying in San Martin
Monday Run (1 hr, 6 miles); Swim (15 min) Pleasant morning jog exploring the roads around where we stayed in San Martin
Tuesday took off Rest is good!
Wednesday Run (1/2 hr, 3 miles); Swim (30 min) Back in Sacramento, 30 minute swim with my wife at the gym
Thursday (today) Run (1 hr, 6 miles). Morning jog with my buddy Erik
TOTALS 4 hrs 20 min run; 95 min swim (Total about 6 hrs) 25.75 miles running, 1 mile+ of swimming

 

*It is quite similar to an exercise week I shared last month.
