Today I was reminded of how it is always within my power to choose my focus. No matter what, I can always focus towards what makes me happy.
This came up because I recently found myself unduly focused on the unpleasantness of a situation that occurred in my life. Somehow I believed that I needed to focus on it, even though there was nothing I could do about it and it really sucked to think about. I knew I needed to snap out of it. It has taken a bit of work, but today I am finally getting that I don’t need to focus on things that don’t feel good.
This sounds like a simple idea, but it’s amazing how often we can get focused on what we don’t want. Let’s say that something isn’t going the way you want it in life. Isn’t the normal thing to focus on the problem, the situation not being how you want it? Maybe you talk about it with your friends and family. “Man, this thing that I don’t like, this sucky thing, this awful thing–” By doing this, you are giving energy to what you do not want. How can we expect to attract what you do want if this is the case? Yet as Abraham-Hicks teaches, most of us have been trained to “tell it like it is.” You get more of what you focus on. If what “is” is not what you want, you may be drawing more of it to yourself.
Chris, this is great. You are learning to stay in the driver’s seat of your life experience. Nothing that happens need ever take up too much of your attention if it doesn’t feel good.
Not even if I drew it to myself. If that’s the case, all the more reason to pivot towards what I want!
Yes, exactly. You are always free to focus on what delights you, what inspires you, what lights you up. We always encourage it, because life is happening now, and GET HAPPY NOW is a good mantra for life, no matter where you are, no matter what you are experiencing. GET HAPPY NOW, GET HAPPY NOW, GET HAPPY NOW!
You mean I get to get happy now, no matter what? Really, really and truly? I love it!
