Day 385: What Makes You Phenomenal?

Posted on August 30, 2019

Perhaps it’s a prerequisite of being a teacher, but I truly believe that there is something extraordinary about every person.

At the same time, I think that in many cases, people do not allow themselves to find out what makes them phenomenal. In my opinion, this is because most people spend their lives trying to win at other people’s games rather than identifying and playing their own. They keep trying to fit that square peg (themselves) into that round hole (someone else’s preferred way of being/living/working/dressing/acting). This seldom works.

It is pointless to try to win at someone else’s game. It is pointless to try to be something you are not. I tried this until I couldn’t stand it any longer… at which point, I found myself trying it several more times… until I finally said, “Enough is enough!”

Maybe you’re a tortoise trying to be the hare. Stop it! Remember: slow and steady wins the race! Learn to run the race that fits for you, at the pace that fits for you, and wearing the jogging clothes that fit for you.

I think everyone should take the time to find out who they really are, what their preferences really are, and then to attune to those things and become that, letting go over anything that doesn’t fit.

Give yourself a gift of learning what makes you amazing, and let that shine.

More than ever, I recognize the things that make me brilliant. May I list them? I thought you’d never ask!

What Makes Me Phenomenal

  1. I got mad piano skills, and I have earned a living both by playing it and by teaching it for over 15 years now.
  2. I am a great planner, and I follow through on the things that I plan (historically, I sometimes did this to a fault… now I aim only to undertake that which is truly in alignment with me).
  3. I am obsessed with being happy, and have created a life that suits me. The things I spend my time on reflect who I truly am and what truly lights me up. For example, running, reading, writing, investing and money management, teaching piano, fasting, and being married 😉
  4. I have a gift for self-reflection as well as articulating personal truths I’ve uncovered.
  5. I’m honest, loyal, and committed, and I value being trustworthy and having integrity above all things.
  6. I am highly creative!
  7. When I set my mind to learn something, I am an excellent study.

Now your turn.

While I think these qualities are pretty frigging rad, I am sure that if you really looked you would find qualities you have that are equally rad.

Give it a try.

My particular phenomenal traits aren’t for everyone. I tend to like consistency, and the no-brainer aspect of setting up a daily blog works for me. But that fits my personality, and folks, it may not be for you!

Do you know what qualities make you amazing? Do you let those qualities shine? Do you know what makes you phenomenal? Have you bothered to explore that? If not, what are you waiting for? Why not start right now?

I have found what works for me in many areas of life. Yet what works in my life probably won’t work in your life as well as if you come to your own solutions.

So how do you wish to lead your life? What would be the perfect way to allow the uniqueness that is you to blossom?

I (and others) await your answers with bated breath 😉
