When I’m working, each moment I am awaiting clarity. My mind is like an antenna. I’m looking for a signal. I routinely connect. Sometimes there are moments of static.
To change metaphors, it’s like I’m driving, and often I see clearly in front of me. But sometimes there’s low visibility. It’s time to pull over to wait ’till the rain/wind/hail/smoke clears.
In real world terms, I vary my actions as I’m getting things done. I allow myself to be flexible. After sitting down in front of the computer, I often get up to do something else. The puzzle was good for that. It was a good way to take a break from “real work.”
It’s like a continuous game of musical chairs, and I’m the only one playing.
I have used this approach with editing my book. Maybe twenty minutes of work, maybe an hour. At some point, typically I will feel “done.” It might be a satisfying done. It might be a “I’m confused now and I need to take a break” done. That’s ok. I know I will be back at it soon.
It could be an email I need to send. Checking in with myself: nope not quite ready. I am inspired to read an article about stocks. I get up and get a snack. A moment of clarity occurs. I sit back down and write the email.
Now I’m writing a post for the blog. Looking for an idea… nope, not yet. I’m mulling it over. I do a little free write and see what comes. I got something!
I do a lot of work this way. Read a little, work a little, get a little further, stop, try something else, go take a nap, come back refreshed. Find a way to keep going forward…
By continually making small movements, one learns to be unstoppable.
It’s pretty cool.
