This is a piece I wrote last week. The title comes from Shakespeare: “To Thine Own Self Be True.” I enjoyed writing this melodic, orchestral piece:

Day 150: More Comfortable With My Humanity?
So here I am in an uncertain situation. Will I be doing a marathon on Sunday or not? It looks doubtful, but I do have a couple of medical appointments this week, one with a chiropractor and one with a physical therapist. I’m keeping an open mind and very glad to be getting help. In the past, I would probably have gotten frustrated at myself, as if I was breaking a promise: “You hypocrite! You said you were doing a marathon, and now you aren’t even sure if you are…
Day 149: Chinks in the Armor
Sadly, I’m not sure I will be running CIM, after all. It feels really awkward to write this, especially since I just posted two and three days ago about running it. However, this has always been the blog where I write about growing and changing. I also get to be honest, and even reveal chinks in the armor. Most of all, this is the blog where I write about my personal happiness journey. And happiness sometimes requires changing one’s plans. So there you go! Meanwhile, I’ll fill you in: It’s…
Day 148: “You’re Going the Wrong Way!” (Original Music)
Tonight I’m sharing this goofy piece I wrote yesterday using exclusively synthesizer and sound effect patches on Logic. This is a little different for me, as I have tended to go in the orchestral direction. I had a lot of fun with this one, and incidentally my wife said she thought the beginning sounded like an introduction to a podcast 🙂
Day 147: Redefining Victory
In eight days I will be running the California International Marathon for the second time in as many years. Last year’s experience was amazing, triumphant… and totally burned me out in ways that I’m still not sure I understand. The physical act of running the marathon was the triumphant part. For a variety of other reasons, including the intensity of training itself, I had a bumpy experience after the marathon was over. As much as I loved last year, I realized I needed to shift things this time around. I…
Day 146: Lessons I’ve Learned During Marathon Training #3
Here we are at the end of November, and we all know what that means! It means that in nine days I (and a lot of other people!) will be running the California International Marathon! I thought this would be a good opportunity to reflect on some of the lessons I’ve learned during training. Lessons I’ve Learned During Marathon Training #3:
Day 145: Today’s “Run to Feed the Hungry” 5k
This morning I ran the “Run to Feed the Hungry,” a local family run here in Sacramento that literally attracts tens of thousands of runners. There are both 5k and 10k options– I did the 5k. I ran the event virtually in 2020 and 2021, but this was the first time doing the event in person. This was also my first time doing a 5k in a public event. To say I had fun is the truth, yet it was more than that. Since time is of the essence and…
Day 144: My 4-Million View Video
So my Charlie Chaplin video has reached 4 million views. The magical fireworks were from May through July, where I got tens of thousands of views on an average day, and as many as one hundred thousand. The views started to drop in August, and recently they have been a trickle compared to the previous flood. No matter. This has been a great experience. It is an affirmation of “If you build it, they will come.” It might take four years from when you first post, but they will come!…
Day 143: Thoughts that Lead Somewhere Good
Tonight I decided I wanted to write about “going unconditional.” This is a concept I learned from Abraham-Hicks and have written about numerous times on here. I find it is useful in the pursuit of personal happiness because, as it turns out, we generally can’t control the conditions in our lives ( Am I right??) So… what is a happiness-seeking person to do, when all those conditions just won’t behave themselves? When there might at any moment (and probably will) be things going on in our lives that we don’t…
Day 142: “The Waiting Game” (Original Music)
I wrote this piece today because it fits my mood and circumstances. Maybe I will explain more on another day. Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy this tense, dramatic orchestral piece:
